A board book for babies who are just learning how to go from Awake to Nap
This beautiful board book showcases acclaimed artist Nikki McClure’s delicate and simple yet stunning papercut artwork. Perfect to read with young children before bedtime, each papercut features a baby exploring the world in some way. Children can learn the beginning of the alphabet from A for Awake to N for Nap—at which point, the baby nods off to sleep. This is a high-concept alphabet book—beautiful enough that adults would want to buy it but also delightful for children.
In 1996, NIKKI McCLURE made her first papercut for the book Apple. She has been creating papercut artwork ever since. She splits her time between making a yearly calendar and making children's books. In the summer, she sails north to explore islands, watch birds, hang out with moss, pick berries, and swim in the Salish Sea. McClure shows her artwork at Land Gallery in Portland every November. She lives in Olympia, Washington, with her husband and son under cedar trees along the eastern shore of the southern Salish Sea. She is also the author of The First 1000 Days, The Next 1000 Days, and Embrace.
“McClure’s medium is paper cutting and she accomplishes this detailed, focused work beautifully. The board book Awake to Nap was created while her son, Finn, was himself napping. A colorful alphabet book (ending at N as the baby falls asleep), Awake to Nap will be a requested again and again.”
