How to Submit to Sasquatch Books and Little Bigfoot

Our adult imprint publishes visual nonfiction by gifted writers, artists, chefs, naturalists, and thought leaders whose work reflects the adventurous, creative, DIY spirit of the Pacific Northwest.  Our Little Bigfoot imprint publishes fiction and nonfiction books for kids ages four to twelve and board books for kids ages zero to three.

We welcome agented and unagented submissions from both debut and experienced writers. To determine if your work is a good fit, please spend some time getting a sense of our publishing program by taking a look at our various titles on our website. If you believe your work to be a good fit for Sasquatch Books or Little Bigfoot, please follow these guidelines, which help us consider and properly evaluate your submission.

Guidelines

  • We don’t accept submissions at our office location—no walk-in or mailed submissions or telephone inquiries.  Our editors work remotely and will not receive your submission.
  • Do not send us your story ideas. We will only consider complete manuscripts or thorough proposals. See our tips for creating a strong book proposal here: Elements of a Nonfiction Book Proposal
  • We are not able to answer questions about the publishing process or help you find an agent. There are several resources available to assist you, including The Writer’s Market and The Writer’s Handbook.
  • We are not currently accepting portfolio or website link submissions.
  • Please do not send poetry, chapter books, or young adult submissions, as we don’t publish in these categories.
  • If your project is a children’s fiction or nonfiction picture book for Little Bigfoot (48 pages or fewer), we will only consider complete manuscripts.
  • If your project is a children’s nonfiction book for Little Bigfoot more than 48 pages in length, we will consider a proposal if you follow our proposal guidelines.
  • If you are an author/illustrator or an author–illustrator duo for Little Bigfoot, please share a rough art storyboard of the entire manuscript and at least one finished color sample of the work.

Please include a cover letter with your submission (which can be in the body of your email) that also includes the following:

  • Your bio or profile, publishing experience, and platform—we want to know about you and why you are uniquely qualified to write the book.
  • An introduction that includes a summary of your story (your pitch).
  • Why you think Sasquatch Books is the right publishing house for your work. For example, are there other books on our list with similar content or in a similar voice as yours? Would your material resonate with our audience?
  • Your target readers—who they are and what age group. The more information you can provide about your key demographic, the stronger your submission.
  • Comparative titles—what recent titles in the marketplace are the most similar to yours and how you envision your book? How does your title stand out from these other titles?
  • Your contact information.

We receive many submissions. We are only able to respond to those that have potential for publication. Kindly do not send repeat submissions.  We will respond within four (4) months if we are considering your project for publication. If you don’t hear back from us after four (4) months, your project was not a fit for our publishing program.

How to submit:

  • Email your manuscript or proposal and cover letter to: submissions@sasquatchbooks.com and indicate if they are for Sasquatch Books for Little Bigfoot.
  • Include the title of your project in the subject line.
  • Attach manuscripts and proposals in Word or PDF format.
  • Attach art samples in PDF or jpeg format.
  • Make sure all your attachments total less than 4MB.
